I'm usually a modern M and the vintage M is roomy enough to layer over a hoodie. For the flannel-over-tee look, order your actual size. For the tied-around-the-waist look, order down.
The shirt is everything the description says. My only note is that the sizing runs true to vintage — which means smaller than modern. I ordered an L (I'm usually a modern L) and it was snug. Would have been better at XL. The Retro Verse team was helpful when I contacted them. Just go up a size.
